Looking Forward to 2023

Talking to an industry associate in early November, we laughed a little bit about the fact that it is (almost) 2023. Well, we were planning for print material for next year. The conversation led us into a quick discussion about Y2K.

Remember, all the fuss over that? Twenty- three years later, we have seen tremendous strides in technology of all sorts of things. Think about the security industry, and the development over the past 23 years.

Each year at this time, I tap into the futuristic thoughts of industry leaders. Let’s take a look at what Scott Dunn, senior director of business development at Axis Communications, has to say. Dunn has written our cover story for this issue.

Video analytics (probably did not know about this 23 years ago), “is in the midst of a revolution.” Today, and well into 2023, this technology will continue to evolve and improve. A few of the trends include hybrid deployments, which will continue to grow. Here is one: The metadata revolution is here to stay. Dunn says this has security uses and allows businesses to leverage the technology for operational ef  ciency and business intelligence purposes.

Without a doubt, cybersecurity has been and will continue to be a concern. Ben Williams, senior director of product management at ASSA ABLOY Opening Solutions, says that devices are more interconnected now, than ever before. What we know is that cybersecurity is increasingly more important.

In Oregon and California, laws have been enacted that go beyond awareness, and that will hold companies more accountable for protection against cybersecurity threats in IoT devices. Access control solutions will include credential   exibility as this technology continues to evolve.

It is a lot to wrap one’s head around all the change, technology and forward thinking. Thankfully, there is a rather large brain trust in the industry that can/will explain all of this. Mind you, these same people will be working on something new for 2024.

Finally, the winning security solutions from our New Product of the Year contest on within these pages. Be sure to look and see where these products will   t into your plans.
